PEAKSHOW EXHIBITIONS PROJECT (2018-2019)
PeakShow Exhibitions was an independent artist-led project based in Limerick, founded by Sara Dowling and Ellen Egan. It aimed to facilitate more Open Call opportunities for local students, recent graduates and emerging artists, and had 4 successful large scale exhibitions over 12 months, featuring the collective works of 69 artists, designers and practitioners. PeakShow at the Sailors Home took place in Oct '18 and ran in conjunction with Open House Architecture Festival, and PeakShow at The Loft took place in Feb '19 (featuring Durty Words by Kate O Shea and Victoria Brunetta, and Artist talks by Stephen Murphy and Helena Grimes). PeakShow at the Fab Lab (working in collaboration with the Riverfest Weekend and the Limerick Arts Office) took place over the May Bank Holiday Weekend, and featured 14 Artists, many of whom were current students and recent graduates. Events in line with the exhibition itself included a socially engaged Tea Event by artist Pavithra Kannan and a live performance by Conor Coady from Echtrae Collaboratives on the final exhibition day. PeakShows last exhibition of the year featured at Limerick City Museum in June, in an awarded 3-artist exhibition selected by the PeakShow team. PeakShow also offered curatorial teams and exhibition assistant call-outs, and shared hands-on knowledge with all interested in being part of its growing PeakShow community for each exhibition.
